CALL FOR PAPERS
CMIP’s 7th State of the Field Conference, “Bahasa Indonesia Pedagogy as a Gateway: Perspectives, Approaches, and Goals in Supporting Indonesian Studies across the Globe,” brings together experienced Indonesian instructors from around the world to share their knowledge and expertise, in the field of Bahasa Indonesia pedagogy for foreign speakers (BIPA). It also invites Indonesianists whose research has benefited from BIPA pedagogy to share their thoughts on how the field of BIPA pedagogy contributes to the growth of Indonesian Studies research worldwide.
This CMIP-Bipapeda (BIPA Pedagogy) event will be a three-day conference, held August 14th-16th, 2025, at the campus of Universitas Pattimura in Ambon, Indonesia. The conference is a collaboration among Indonesian teaching faculty from diverse regions—America, Australia, Asia, and Europe — supported by distinguished Indonesianists.

Abstracts are invited for paper presentations on any pedagogy-related topics that explore the state of BIPA pedagogy (see suggested topics below). Each paper will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation, followed by a 10-minute-discussion to follow. All presentations and Q&A will be conducted in English and/or Indonesian.
Suggested topics for papers and presentations:
- The role of Indonesian language pedagogy in addressing local economic, sociopolitical, and cultural dynamics.
- BIPA curriculum development within the broader context of global language pedagogy
- Strengthening Indonesian studies: Past, current, and future efforts to build a global support network for Indonesian language pedagogy
- Innovations in teaching methodologies informed by shared linguistic, geographic, and cultural factors
- Integrating local cultural content into language material development
- Interdisciplinary approaches to Indonesian language pedagogy
- Advancing Indonesian language learning through technology
Abstracts of up to 250 words [data and references may be included on a second page] should be submitted in electronic form (PDF or MS Word) to <cmipbipapeda@gmail.com>. Please indicate the name, affiliation, and title of the abstract in the body of the email or on the cover page.
Deadline for submission of abstracts: April 21, 2025
Announcement of acceptance: May 5, 2025
We expect to publish selected proceedings from the conference. Meals (breakfast, snack, and lunch) will be offered during the sessions, and certificates of participation are available for those fully attending the conference. Registration and meals are free.
